For the last years he has been working on development projects related to equipment used for daily road maintenance and information technology to improve overall work quality and raise efficiency. Also, leading the development of the company’s internal work accounting and cost analysis system.   In 2020 he managed project of implementing mobile road surface state observation. The project included 10 mobile sensor installations on local freight carrier trucks for winter service purposes, to gain additional awareness about road state in road segments with poor fixed road weather station’s coverage.

Milko Tietäväinen is a construction director in the City of Tampere. He has over 20 years of experience in road and transportation infrastructure sector. He is especially interested in development of city Infrastructure and has previously worked as a managing director in Tampere City Infrastructure Enterprise. He has been active in several challenging infrastructure projects in Tampere.

Taisto Haavasoja, Teconer

Taisto Haavasoja, Ph.D. (Phys), has a scientific background in ultra-low temperature superfluid physics. Since 1984 he has been working as a sensor researcher and a product development manager in the area of road weather stations. Starting 2008 Taisto Haavasoja has been managing director of Teconer Oy, which produces road condition monitors and industrial moisture sensors.

Taisto Haavasoja, Ph.D. (Phys), on koulutukseltaan ultramatalien lämpötilojen fyysikko. Hän on ollut 1980 luvulta lähtien anturitutkijana ja tuotekehityspäällikkönä tiesääasemien kehityksessä. Vuodesta 2008 alkaen hän on toiminut toimitusjohtajana Teconer Oy:ssä, joka tuottaa keliantureita ja kelitietojärjestelmiä sekä teollisia kosteusantureita.

Juha Laakso, Infotripla

Juha Laakso Manager Digital Solutions, Infotripla Oy, has a master’s degree in road and traffic engineering and production economics and a technology licensee. He has worked as a road and traffic planner in several Finnish consulting companies, as a researcher of intelligent transport at a university, and as a development director and director of digital solutions at Infotripla Oy, which is part of the Aebi Schmidt group like Arctic Machine Oy.

Juha Laakso Manager Digital Solutions, Infotripla Oy, on tie- ja liikennetekniikan sekä tuotantotalouden alojen diplomi-insinööri ja tekniikan lisensiaatti. Hän on työskennellyt tie- ja liikennesuunnittelijana useissa suomalaisissa konsulttiyhtiöissä, älyliikenteen tutkijana yliopistossa sekä kehitysjohtajana ja digitaalisten ratkaisuiden johtajana Infotripla Oy:ssa, joka on osa Aebi Schmidt -konsernia Arctic Machine Oy:n tavoin.

Quentim Adam Félix, Denmark Technical University

Quentin Félix Adam is a PhD Student at the Department of Civil Engineering at DTU – The Technical University of Denmark. His PhD project investigates electrically heated asphalt pavements and their thermo-mechanical effects. Investigations include: (i) low-temperature cracking mitigation; (ii) frost-front penetration suppression; (iii) constructability of electrically heated pavements; and (iv) snow melting process.

Elyal Levenberg, Denmark Technical University

Eyal Levenberg is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at DTU – The Technical University of Denmark. He is active in the fields of: (i) pavement thermo-mechanics, (ii) smart pavement technology, (iii) inverse analysis of in situ pavement properties, (iv) constitutive modeling and characterization of asphalt concrete, and (v) digital twins for pavements.

Augusto Cannone Falchetto, Aalto yliopisto, Aalto University

Dr. Augusto Cannone Falchetto is a faculty member at Aalto University in the Department of Civil Engineering. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and later worked in Germany and Japan and U.S. His research focuses on infrastructure materials and pavement engineering and combines experimental research, advanced analysis, and modeling. Dr. Cannone Falchetto has made outstanding contributions to the field throughout his career, which is evident in his widely published and cited work. As an active RILEM member, he has been involved in several Technical Committees and contributed to State-of-the-Art Reports, technical papers, and recommendations. Based on the sound application of scientific principles, his research has developed solid practical relevance and attracted recognition through numerous awards, such as the prestigious Robert L’Hermite.

Antti Hirvonen, Road Cloud

Antti Hirvonen is multi-talented. He has received his maintenance training in city organizations and has since implemented various street and road network asset management development projects in the role of a consultant. Now he is bringing vehicle-based mass data collection and knowledge-based management to the use of maintenance experts.

Antti Hirvonen on moniottelija. Hän on saanut kunnossapito-oppinsa kaupunkiorganisaatioissa ja toteuttanut sen jälkeen erilaisia katu- ja tieverkon omaisuudenhallinnan kehitysprojektia konsultin roolissa. Nyt hän on tuomassa ajoneuvojen avulla tehtävää joukkoistettua tiedonkeruuta ja tiedolla johtamista kunnossapidon asiantuntijoiden käyttöön.

Title: Increased winter road safety with information of the prevailing road condition

Viktoria Bogren, Head of Automotive at Klimator will talk about how we can increase winter road safety by providing more and reliable information of the prevailing road conditions. Viktorias background is within mechanical engineering and product development and started at Klimator 2018, where she has worked with product development and project lead before entering the business area Automotive in 2021. Klimator is a Swedish software company and a world leader within road climatology. Klimator has developed a patented data aggregation platform that can predict road weather conditions for a complete road network as well as a sensor technology that can detect road conditions in real-time in front of a moving vehicle. Klimator has two business areas which are applying these technologies. Automotive, focusing on technology that can increased driver information, improved advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) functionalities, and enabled safes autonomous driving (AD) at scale. And the other business area, Winter maintenance, Klimator applies the technology in the decision support tool Road Status Information (RSI). With RSI, winter contractors get a powerful tool for making critical decisions about when measures need to be taken and what treatment actions that is most efficient.

Dr. Timo Saarenketo is the CEO of Roadscanners Oy. He also works as an Adjunct Professor at the Tampere University of Technology. He has specialized in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and other Non-Destructive Testing based road and bridge and other traffic infrastructure analysis, pavement and road design, rehabilitation design, road material surveys. A special interest is also low traffic volume road asset management in cold climate areas. Over the last few years he has also been working on an analysis of the impact of new heavy trucks on the condition of the pavement structure.

Kaisu Laitinen, Ramboll

Kaisu Laitinen’s interest are currently focused on people’s practical work in the infrastructure sector. In particular, she is inspired by solutions and structures that improve the flow of practical work, because she sees a huge potential in them to improve the meaning of work and to produce increasingly valuable, sustainable and long-lasting solutions for society. She promotes these goals with his doctoral research at the University of Tampere in the TerraDigi research group. Her main job at Ramboll is developing the productivity of the infrastructure sector through customer projects and work aimed at improving team and project operations. Enabled by this combination, it is very rewarding to develop effective needs-based solutions, that is, to combine research and practical export perspectives.

Kaisu Laitisen mielenkiinto kohdistuu parhaillaan ihmisten käytännön työn tekemiseen infra-alalla. Erityisesti häntä innostaa käytännön työn sujuvuutta parantavat ratkaisut ja rakenteet, koska näkee niissä valtavasti potentiaalia parantaa työnteon mielekkyyttä ja tuottaa yhteiskunnan kannalta yhä arvokkaampia, kestävämpiä ja pitkäikäisempiä ratkaisuja. Näitä tavoitteita hän edistää Tampereen yliopistolla TerraDigi-tutkimusryhmässä tehtävällä väitöstutkimuksella. Päätyöss Rambollilla hän kehittää infra-alan tuottavuutta asiakasprojektien sekä tiimi- ja projektitoiminnan parantamiseen tähtäävän tekemisen kautta. Tämän yhdistelmän mahdollistamana on erittäin antoisaa kehittää tehokkaita tarvelähtöisiä ratkaisuja eli yhdistää tutkimuksen ja käytäntöön viennin näkökulmia.

Toni Lusikka, VTT Oy

DI Toni Lusikka works as a researcher at VTT in the Transport Services team. His educational background is in industrial management and production. His areas of expertise include several areas from winter maintenance to product management and the development of value-added services, including e.g. evaluation of effectiveness, conceptualization of services and research of business ecosystems. Lusikka has worked in several research projects related to traffic management, the subject areas of which include e.g. road weather, road condition and data collected from vehicles. He is currently also working on a dissertation on innovation and business ecosystems in the provision of exercise services and related value-added services.

DI Toni Lusikka toimii tutkijana VTT:llä Liikenteen palvelut -tiimissä. Hänen koulutustaustansa on tuotantotalous. Hänen osaamisalueisiin kuuluu useita osa-alueita talvikunnossapidosta tuotehallintaan ja lisäarvopalveluiden kehittämiseen, sisältäen mm. vaikuttavuuden arviointia, palveluiden konseptointia ja liiketoimintaekosysteemien tutkimusta. Lusikka on työskennellyt useissa liikenteen hallintaan liittyvissä tutkimushankkeissa, joiden aihealueisiin kuuluu mm. tiesää, tien kunto ja ajoneuvoista kerättävä data. Hän tekee tällä hetkellä myös väitöskirjaa innovaatio- ja liiketoimintaekosysteemeistä liikumispalveluiden ja niihin liittyvien lisäarvopalveluiden tarjoamisessa.

Aleksi Kauppi works as RoadAI application manager at Vaisala with the goal of taking Vaisala’s machine vision product even stronger to the global market. He has previously worked in various roles from sales to company development at Vionece – a machine vision startup company that Vaisala bought in 2017. Kauppi has a master’s degree in engineering from Lappeenranta University of Technology

Aleksi Kauppi toimii RoadAI-sovelluspäällikkönä Vaisalalla tavoitteenaan viedä Vaisalan konenäkötuotetta entistä vahvemmin globaaleille markkinoille. Hän on aikaisemmin työskennellyt eri rooleissa myynnistä yrityksen kehittämiseen Vionicessa – konenäköstartup-yrityksessä, jonka Vaisala osti vuonna 2017.  Kauppi on koulutukseltaan diplomi-insinööri Lappeenrannan teknillisestä yliopistosta

Erikoistutkija Pirjo Venäläinen Metsäteho Oy:stä on toiminut logistiikan tutkimus- ja kehitystehtävissä reilut 20 vuotta. Metsäteholla hänen tehtäviinsä kuuluu kotimaisen puulogistiikan tutkimus.

Aleksi Vesanto, Ramboll

Aleksi Vesanto, Master of Science in Engineering, works in Ramboll as the head of the unit in Tampere’s Smart Mobility unit. Vesanto has more than 10 years of experience in utilizing data collected from traffic, intelligent traffic solutions and traffic services. Vesanto has worked as a project manager for almost 10 years, leading various software or service development projects and consulting settlement work.

Diplomi-insinööri Aleksi Vesanto toimii Rambollissa yksikön päällikkönä Tampereen Smart Mobility -yksikössä. Vesannolla on yli 10 vuoden kokemus liikenteestä kerättävän datan hyödyntämisestä, älykkäistä liikenneratkaisuista ja liikenteen palveluista. Vesanto on toiminut projektipäällikkönä lähes 10 vuoden ajan johtaen vaihtelevia ohjelmisto- tai palvelukehitysprojekteja ja konsultoinnin selvitystöitä.

Lasse Nykänen (DI) has worked at Vediafi as a project manager since 2019, before which he has worked in the research world as a transport researcher at VTT Technology Research Center and Tampere University of Technology for almost 10 years. Nykänen specializes in the development of smart transport, new transport services and sustainable logistics. Nykänen has worked as a project manager in several national and international logistics digitization and data sharing, traffic automation and C-ITS projects.

Lasse Nykänen (DI)on toiminut Vediafi:llä projektijohtajana vuodesta 2019, mitä ennen hän on työskennellyt tutkimusmaailmassa liikennealan tutkijana Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT:llä ja Tampereen teknillisessä yliopistossa lähes 10 vuoden ajan. Nykänen on erikoistunut älyliikenteen, liikenteen uusien palveluiden ja kestävän logistiikan kehittämiseen. Nykänen on toiminut projektipäällikkönä useissa kansallisissa ja kansainvälisissä logistiikan digitalisaation sekä datanjaon, liikenteen automaatio- ja C-ITS -hankkeissa.

Toimin ympäristöyksikössä ympäristöasioiden kehittämisen parissa. Työtehtäviini kuuluvat myös ympäristöohjeiden ja ympäristö T&K koordinointia. Operatiivinen tuki hankintojen ympäristöasiat, tieliikenteen ympäristöasiat sekä ympäristöseuranta.

Oiva Huuskonen, Destia

Oiva Huuskonen works at Destia Oy as Maintenance Development Manager. His is a licentiate in technology from the University of Technology in Espoo. Huuskonen’s specialty is road engineering, in his studies he had ground construction and soil mechanics as a minor. He has worked in various road maintenance positions since 1982. His current development areas in maintenance include e.g. digitization, winter maintenance control and matters related to the recycling economy.

Oiva Huuskonen toimii Destia Oy:stä Kunnossapidon kehittämispäällikkönä. Koulutukseltani hän on tekniikan lisensiaatti Teknillisestä korkeakoulusta Espoosta. Huuskosen erikoisala on tietekniikka, opinnoissa sivuaineena hänellä oli pohjarakentaminen ja maamekaniikka. Hän on toiminut erilaisissa tienpidon tehtävissä vuodesta 1982. Kunnossapidon tämän hetkisiä kehittämisalueitamme ovat mm. digitalisaatio, talvikunnossapidon ohjaus ja kierrätystalouteen liittyvät asiat.

Kimmo Heikkilä, Ramboll

MSc (Tech) Kimmo Heikkilä works as project manager in Ramboll’s Smart Mobility Tampere unit. His expertise areas include impact and profitability assessment of transport and highway projects, transport masterplanning, studies and plans related to special transports, traffic modelling and simulation, GIS, and the utilisation of road network data for different kinds of analyses. Recently, he has been preparing national guidelines and developing methods for the assessment of highway projects as well as assessed the impacts and profitability of actual projects being planned in different parts of Finland.

DI Kimmo Heikkilä toimii projektipäällikkönä Rambollin Smart Mobility Tampere -yksikössä erilaisissa strategiseen, esi-, yleis-, tie- ja liikennesuunnitteluun liittyvissä projekteissa. Erityisosaamisalueina Kimmolla ovat tiehankkeiden vaikutusten ja vaikuttavuuden arviointi sekä hankearviointi, liikenteelliset esiselvitykset, erikoiskuljetuksiin liittyvät selvitykset ja suunnitelmat, liikenteen toimivuustarkastelut sekä paikkatietoanalyysit ja tiestötietodatojen hyödyntäminen. Viime aikoina hän on ollut laatimassa mm. tiehankkeiden hankearviointeihin liittyviä ohjeistuksia sekä kohdekohtaisia vaikutus- ja hankearviointeja ja kannattavuuslaskelmia eri puolille Suomea sijoittuviin suunnitteluhankkeisiin. Lisäksi hän on kehittänyt arviointimenetelmiä, erityisesti arvioinneissa yleisesti käytettävää IVAR3-ohjelmistoa, sen malleja ja soveltamistapoja erityyppisiin kohteisiin.
